Small house..

So, I've been following Brenda's blog http://www.cozylittlehouse.com/
She just moved into a small house and is thinking up ways to make a place for everything, and everything in its place...lol Good reads at her blog.
In our small house there is no pantry, so I'd been looking for a little shelf for a space on the back porch. I found a REALLY ugly gold metalic one which I promptly sprayed white...whew! It may not hold much, but does help with the overflow from the kitchen cupboard...

Ok, ok..I know there are a FEW quilts stuffed around the cupboard, but whats more important, food or quilts?

Before I had a cold...

So anyhoo, I actually have been busy, before daughter so generously gave me her cold....
I found a dresser for ME, sanded it, painted it white and added new pulls.
My old dresser is going to my "faux" niece for her 2 girls.  Said niece wanted it painted black. I added stencils..I'm now officially done with painting...ick

Seizures N Quilts...

I know...odd blog post title, I'll splain...

For many years we have tried to figure out a safe bed for our daughter. After the most recent "Screaming/Gran mal", I was at my wits end to find something that daughter could fall out of, and be safe.
While chatting with my quilty friend Ang (who is an awesome EMT and RN student), she suggested putting the bed on the floor like nursing homes do with thier seizure/falling type patients. It was like a light bulb went off in my head! Why didnt we think of that before? Geezzzz....
So, off to RC Willey I went. Bought a low profile box spring, and a cushy pillow top mattress.  Daughter can now safely roll off her bed onto the super thick carpet (newly installed), and not hurt herself! YAY!
Pic is of new bed and a quilt I designed about 10 yrs. ago when I 1st began quiltmaking...

Experiment fini!

Ok, so why was this an experiment? Well, I'd never made one before, and I only wanted to do one before deciding if it was worth the time...Speaking of time, it took exactly one hour to sew the "blades" together. I machine appliqued it down with monofiliment thread, voila!

"Perfect Ten" how do I love thee...Let me count de wayz

So, this is my 3rd installment of this pattern with 2 more to go....Its just sooo simple, but striking, a good lap size also...I have a Xmas and a commission from a neighbor, and maybe one for meeeeeee....

My great niece made her 1st quilt this summer, so am sending her a pincushion...

P.S. Fabrics on halloween quilt are a mix,  but the main ones are from Moda's Haunted Mansion, last years line.

We went to Napa last week to visit a "village" for our daughter's eventual placement.... Geesh, I wanna live there!  Napa is the only place in Calif,  otherwise there are lots of choices on the east coast and southern states..hmmm...
Thats it for this Labor day, icky hot all this week :(

I decided to make my neice a needlecase. I made it smaller than the pattern. The "tute" is http://sewshesews.wordpress.com/2011/02/03/quilted-needle-case-tutorial/

Extreme UFO..ahem..

Ok, so, this one is truly an extreme UFO. Why u ask, well I'd machine quilted it on a friend's Voyager 17 longarm last year. The machine didn't take well to being turned in a curvy manner, thus I really disliked what I'd quilted. I washed it hoping it would look better, but nooooo.
So, I let it sit, thinking someday I'll "skin" it, re quilt it, all the while sooo dreading that job...
Now that I have an HQ16, I loaded it on the frame and it only took 2 hours to "skin".  I popped holes in the backing, but only one tiny hole in the front, quilted a panto pattern, and voila!
The pattern is a Miss Rosie's...

As a side note we had a swamp cooler put in the sun/sewing room yesterday. I was able to get in here by 8:30pm instead of 11pm due to the overwhelming COOLNESS!  All this chilliness should get me more longarming time!
Note to Barbara Ann...Nope not a hard one to make, u just really need some kind of design wall...

Hot cha cha..

That would be MEEEeeeee....WAY 2 hot here. Ya, so its a "dry" heat, I don't care, anything over 80 ish me no likey....
Anyhoo, I made this quilt in a weekend. New pattern to me. I like how complicated it looks, but is sooo easy!  Its for my nephew. I'll be longarming it when hell freezes over, ahem, ok, when it cools off!

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Yup, its another one..

This is the 2nd "Perfect Ten" quilt. 2 down, more to go...I'm getting faster everytime I make this one!
